SUMMARY:The HERDS - Animal Travels
DESCRIPTION:The HERDS is a groundbreaking public art and climate initiative designed to inspire action and renew our bond with the natural world. From April to August 2025\, life-size puppet animals will sweep through city centres on a 20\,000km journey from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle\, bringing together the worlds of arts and science in an urgent call for climate action. \nWe are excited to let you know that Stanwick Lakes has been given a grant from the Art Fund to host hands-on educational\, community activities to raise awareness of this amazing project. \nThroughout May and June we will create a giant kestrel puppet with a professional puppeteer and local teenagers\, which will be part of an “Animal Travels” exhibition in the Visitor Centre Heritage Museum. The exhibition will take place in the May half term holiday and will feature some of the stories of the animals who lived in this part of the Nene Valley in the past\, and include local finds such as a woolly mammoth tooth and an auroch horn!  Alongside the exhibition\, there will be FREE drop in animal puppet crafts and a “Follow the HERDS” trail to help visitors learn about some of these amazing journeys while being immersed in beautiful views and wildlife outside on the nature reserve.

SUMMARY:Den Building with a Ranger!
DESCRIPTION:Build a den at Stanwick Lakes this half term! \nA Ranger will lead your group to our den building area and introduce you to the tools and materials available\, and we’ll discuss the main properties a shelter should have if it were to be needed in a survival situation! You’ll then be set a challenge\, in your groups\, to build your own waterproof den! One of our Ranger team will be on hand to visit your shelter and hear about your chosen den-building techniques and vision and we might even test out how waterproof your shelters really are! \nSessions last approx. 60 minutes and a responsible adult must be present throughout. \nMeet at the Ranger Cabin 5 mins before and your chosen\, ticketed start time. \nPlease check our website on the day of your session for information regarding flooding – wellies may be advisable! \nPlease note no refunds will be given so check your selected date/time carefully before booking.

SUMMARY:Talk&Walk: Summer Conservation Work with the Rangers
DESCRIPTION:Join the Ranger team in the Visitor Centre to hear about the work they have completed throughout the winter conservation season\, their wildlife highlights so far\, and their plans for the upcoming months. The talk will be followed by an optional wildlife-spotting walk around some of the key locations on site where conservation work is underway. And there will be the opportunity to ask questions about all aspects of the Rangers’ work. \nStarting from 10:30am the talk and walk should last about 60-90 minutes. \nWhat’s Included \nOur Tea\, Talk and Walk is £8.00 which includes the talk\, the walk\, parking for the duration and a hot drinks voucher to be redeemed in the café. \nOur Soup\, Tea\, Talk and Walk is £14.00 which includes the talk\, the walk\, parking for the duration\, a hot drinks voucher and a Soup and Bread Roll to be redeemed in the café. \n  \n  \n
