SUMMARY:Open Water Swimming
DESCRIPTION:For 2026\, we are pleased to offer weekly open water swimming sessions\, taking place every Friday evening throughout the summer season\, from Friday 15th May to Friday 28th August. This is our most regular programme to date\, giving swimmers the opportunity to build a consistent routine and enjoy the benefits of swimming in a unique natural setting. \nAll sessions are fully lifeguarded and supported by an experienced on-water safety team\, ensuring a safe and structured environment for open water swimming. \nAs a nature reserve and designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, Stanwick Lakes is subject to strict protections. You’ll explore various techniques to layer different materials like watercolors\, inks\, and acrylics\, adding depth and texture to your work. Alongside these\, we’ll incorporate drawing tools such as pencils and pens to refine and enhance your composition\, bringing out intricate details. Throughout the session\, you’ll learn how to balance and integrate these different elements\, resulting in a richly layered piece that reflects your individual style. By the end\, you’ll have completed a mixed media painting that showcases the skills and creativity developed during the class. \nParking is included in the ticket price. \nCancellation Policy  \nCancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Cancellations made within 4 weeks of the session are non-refundable. We’ll cover a wide range of practical skills\, from the essential steps of surface preparation to the application of paint\, as well as how to effectively use various tools and mediums. \nThroughout these sessions\, you’ll learn techniques to create washes\, build layers\, add texture\, and refine fine details. Each month\, we’ll draw inspiration from different subjects\, helping you develop a broader range of skills and ideas in your watercolour painting practice. \nYou’re welcome to dip in and out of these sessions as each is designed to be stand-alone\, or you can choose to book them in a series for a more in-depth experience. In each class\, you will join a relaxed group where new and returning painters create together in a relaxed\, drop-in style session. DESCRIPTION:We’re delighted to welcome back Nick Penny\, writer\, musician\, and lover of the natural world. \nNick has delivered his popular talks and musical performances for us before\, and this time he returns to Stanwick Lakes for another special evening of live music and chat. \nFor this hour-long experience he’ll fill the air with harp\, handpan\, and birdsong\, evoking the beauty of the Northamptonshire countryside. His multimedia performance has recently been described as “absolutely unique\, absolutely wonderful!”\nThese events are very popular and often sell out. Don’t miss it! \nWhy not make an evening of it and enjoy a fish and chip supper by the lake before the performance? \n  \nPlease note: fish and chips pre-orders are now closed.
