SUMMARY:Open Water Swimming
DESCRIPTION:For 2026\, we are pleased to offer weekly open water swimming sessions\, taking place every Friday evening throughout the summer season\, from Friday 15th May to Friday 28th August. This is our most regular programme to date\, giving swimmers the opportunity to build a consistent routine and enjoy the benefits of swimming in a unique natural setting. \nAll sessions are fully lifeguarded and supported by an experienced on-water safety team\, ensuring a safe and structured environment for open water swimming. \nAs a nature reserve and designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, Stanwick Lakes is subject to strict protections. DESCRIPTION:Northants and Rutland Open Studios\nStanwick Art Collective\nThis September\, four creative local artist exhibit together at Stanwick Lakes to feature a vibrant mix of styles\, materials and perspectives in response to the natural world. The exhibition at Stanwick Lakes Visitor Centre will run for the month of September\, and will be open daily. \nHere are some of the artists taking part in this year’s event:  \n\nAnna Yardley- The Sea Artist\, \nColin Odom- WoodWight\, \nDavid Buchanan\, \nTrevor Petrie. \n\nThere will be an opportunity to meet the artists  to discuss their work on Sunday 6th September from 10am – 2pm.  \nPlease note that on some occasions the room may not be available for guests to view all the artwork due to room hire bookings\, however a catalogue will be available to view at all times. \n

DESCRIPTION:Our next Home Education Day will be on Thursday 3rd September 2026. Everyone is welcome but is best suited to learners aged 5–11 or those accessing the Key Stages 1 & 2 curriculum. \nNature: Wildflower MeadowsAs part of a new project\, help us to improve our wildflower meadows by becoming part of our Ranger team. \nHeritage: Blacksmithing Demonstration: Iron Age BritainLearn about the amazing changes in Iron Age Britain and watch an exciting blacksmithing demonstration to see how metal was shaped. \nAdventure: Campfire CookingDiscover the fun of cooking outdoors by making flatbreads and toasting marshmallows to create delicious s’mores. Vegan options are available\, but please let us know about any dietary requirements when booking. \nPlease note that this activity involves ingredients containing gluten and dairy. Food will be prepared outdoors\, and while every effort will be made to minimise cross-contamination\, we cannot guarantee that products will be free from traces of gluten or dairy. Therefore\, this activity may not be suitable for individuals with severe allergies to these ingredients. \n  \nAll children must be accompanied by an adult. Siblings are welcome\, children wishing to participate must purchase a ticket.  Parking free of charge if registration is provided at time of booking. \nParking is included with your ticket. \nSpecial Conditions \nPlease note the following conditions apply to this event: \n\nPlease wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for all weather conditions.\nThe event may be cancelled or amended at short notice in the case of extreme or unsafe weather conditions (such as storms or other conditions that may present a safety risk).\nNo dogs are permitted at the event.\n\nCancellation PolicyOnce we receive your booking form\, your booking is confirmed. SUMMARY:Heritage Talk: Bronze Age Burials And Ceremonial Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Bronze Age Burials And Ceremonial Landscape \nA heritage talk by Professor Stephen Upex \nThe coming of the Bronze Age heralds major changes in the way that society appears to have operated\, farmed\, buried their dead and worshipped which can all be detected within the archaeological landscape. This talk will review some of these changes and explain how society developed  and who was driving these changes. \nSpeaker Bio: \nProfessor Stephen Upex Ph.D.\, MCIfA. FSA. \nProf. Stephen Upex has written papers and books on topics related to British landscape history and archaeology and his interests range from Roman and Saxon landscapes and archaeology to medieval open fields systems. He has directed archaeological excavations on Roman and Saxon sites in the East Midlands and contributed to several Time Team programmes for Channel Four. Recently Stephen has written a series of landscape and archaeological reports and books on sites within the East Midlands and he is currently in the process of publishing a volume on Roman industrial landscapes.  His most recent books are the ‘Romans in the Nene valley’ (2022) and ‘Edmund Tyrell Artis and the Durobrivae of Antoninus’ (2023) Stephen is a tutor at the University of Cambridge and also works a freelance archaeologist\, author and consultant. He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Field Archaeologists (MCIfA) and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (FSA).
