Big Bronze-Age Boat Launch!

Save the date for the exciting launch of our hand-built Bronze Age boats!
Sunday 21st July 2024 11am – 4pm
Come along and join us to celebrate a Heritage first when we set sail!
The celebration of the experimental archaeology project will see the boats launched onto the water as part of a special day designed to shine the spotlight on the history of the site and the Nene Valley.
11.30am – Bronze Casting with Dr James Dilley of Ancient Craft as he creates a beautiful bronze tool to be our ritual sacrifice
1.30pm – The Launch! The log boats will be launched into the water, with commentary from Dr James Dilley.
Followed by a regatta – the Bronze Age Boats will be joined by a variety of historical and modern water crafts to enjoy the lake for our entertainment
Activities throughout the day:
- Must Farm – Meet Chris Wakefield from Cambridgeshire Archaeological Unit and learn about “Britain’s Pompei” – the extraordinary discovery of the Must Farm Bronze Age Settlement
- Natural Dyeing and cordage with the Northants Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers
- Viking Longship and Boat Camp – Jotunns Wrath
- Coracles – a Medieval style Coracle with Michael Brown, The Medieval Pilgrim, and our very own Stanwick Lakes Coracles
- Ancient Food – From Neolithic to Medieval, follow the historic eras of Stanwick Lakes with a timeline for your tastebuds!
- Children’s craft activities
- Food, cold drinks and refreshments available all day
