Winter Hours: From 26/10/24 the carpark is locked at 5.30pm. The Visitor Centre closes at 5pm.  Café is open until 3pm, or 4pm during weekends and the school holidays. Please note, the waterplay feature is closed Monday mornings for routine cleaning and maintenance.

Please note on Friday 21st March the Visitor Centre will be closed all day for a private event. However, The Walker’s Rest kiosk will be open for hot & cold drinks and snacks and the outside toilets will also be open.

Workshops AncientCraft – Flint Knapping – October 2025

Stanwick Lakes

The oldest flint tools found in Britain date to around 1 million years ago, the latest around 3000 years ago so you will have the chance to try your hand at a process used for 99.7% of human presence in Britain! Experimental archaeologist Dr. James Dilley will guide you through the process of making your own flint tools to take home at the end. He appears frequently on archaeology television programmes including Digging for Britain, Stonehenge: The Lost Circle, HistoryHit and many more!

Workshops AncientCraft – Bronze Age Jewellery – October 2025

The day will begin with a 1 hour introductory talk to jewellery in the Bronze Age, covering materials, UK artefacts and manufacturing techniques. Participants will then spend the morning practising a variety of techniques to create a shale bead before moving onto working with jet and/or amber to create a replica of their own. In the afternoon there will also be an option to learn how to make prehistoric cordage from natural fibres if the participants wish to string their jewellery.
