SUMMARY:Batik Silk Painting Workshop: Autumn Berries
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nIn this hands-on\, beginner-friendly class\, Lisa will guide you through the beautiful and organic process of batik\, a centuries-old technique that uses melted wax and vibrant inks on silk to create rich\, flowing designs. Over four hours\, you’ll experiment with mark-making\, layering\, and colour blending\, before crafting your own unique silk artwork inspired by the natural forms of spring. \nBy the end of the session\, you’ll leave not only with a framed piece of art to treasure (or gift!) but also with the confidence to continue exploring this versatile medium at home. \nAll materials are included\, along with plenty of encouragement\, expert tips\, and creative inspiration. Whether you’re completely new to silk painting or simply curious to try something different\, this is a relaxed and rewarding way to spend the day. \nPlease bring an apron or wear old clothes as the inks may stain clothing. \nPlease note lunch is not provided\, but you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch or visit our Visitor Centre Café. \nThis workshop is suitable for 16+. \nCancellation Policy  \nCancellation and a full refund can be obtained up to 4 weeks before the course starts. Cancellations made within 4 weeks of the session are non-refundable. In exceptional circumstances\, please speak to our team so we can discuss how we may be able to accommodate you. \nUnder the Consumer Contracts Regulations\, bookings made online may be eligible for a 14-day cooling-off period. However\, if the session is scheduled to take place within this period\, this right no longer applies. \nIf the booking is made directly with Stanwick Lakes\, we ask that all cancellation requests must be made by via email to: info@rftrust.org.uk and should include your full name\, booking reference (if available)\, session date or title\, and reason for cancellation.

SUMMARY:Blacksmithing Workshop - For Young People (ages 12-17)
DESCRIPTION:Get fired up and step into the world of blacksmithing!\nThis hands-on taster workshop is a thrilling introduction to the ancient art of forging\, specially designed for young people. You’ll discover the basics of working with hot metal – heating\, shaping\, twisting\, and scrolling – and experience the excitement of creating something from scratch in a real forge. \nWhat You’ll Learn\n– Master basic blacksmithing techniques like heating and shaping.\n– Learn safety and tool use from a professional blacksmith.\n– Customize projects to suit your skill level \nWho is this course for?\nThis day is suitable for everyone. Blacksmithing is about technique and making sure the steel is heated to the right temperature before working it\, not about using heavy hammers and hitting the metal very hard! \nYour tutor for the day is John Wills\, who has been running his own heritage metalwork business for ten years and teaching since 2017. He specialises in making historical reproductions in copper\, brass\, tinplate and iron/steel for museums\, re-enactors\, TV\, and film. As a member of the Heritage Craft Association\, John is actively involved in promoting and preserving metalwork skills and traditions that would otherwise be lost. His blacksmith work has been used in Hollywood films and can be seen at historic sites around England. \nThe course is limited to just 4 participants\, so that each person has their own anvil to work on.\nAll tools\, materials\, and safety gear are provided – just bring your curiosity and wear sturdy\, hard-soled footwear and full length trousers.\nFree parking is including with each booking. \nImportant: Participants under 18 must be supervised by a responsible adult (18+). Please avoid wearing transition lenses or auto-darkening glasses.
