SUMMARY:The HERDS - Animal Travels
DESCRIPTION:The HERDS is a groundbreaking public art and climate initiative designed to inspire action and renew our bond with the natural world. From April to August 2025\, life-size puppet animals will sweep through city centres on a 20\,000km journey from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle\, bringing together the worlds of arts and science in an urgent call for climate action. \nWe are excited to let you know that Stanwick Lakes has been given a grant from the Art Fund to host hands-on educational\, community activities to raise awareness of this amazing project. \nThroughout May and June we will create a giant kestrel puppet with a professional puppeteer and local teenagers\, which will be part of an “Animal Travels” exhibition in the Visitor Centre Heritage Museum. The exhibition will take place in the May half term holiday and will feature some of the stories of the animals who lived in this part of the Nene Valley in the past\, and include local finds such as a woolly mammoth tooth and an auroch horn!  Alongside the exhibition\, there will be FREE drop in animal puppet crafts and a “Follow the HERDS” trail to help visitors learn about some of these amazing journeys while being immersed in beautiful views and wildlife outside on the nature reserve.

DESCRIPTION:Join our rangers for a pond dipping session this half term! \nUsing nets\, trays and magnifying glasses and guided by one of our rangers\, come and discover the creatures that live in the ponds at Stanwick Lakes! After a safety briefing and an introduction to the creatures we’re likely to find\, we’ll head to the pond dipping platform where you will be given a pond dipping kit! DESCRIPTION:Join the Ranger team in the Visitor Centre to hear about the work they have completed throughout the winter conservation season\, their wildlife highlights so far\, and their plans for the upcoming months. The talk will be followed by an optional wildlife-spotting walk around some of the key locations on site where conservation work is underway. She has been telling tales at festivals\, schools\, care homes and multi-faith events around Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire since 2015. She had the honour of serving as 2023 Bard of Stony Stratford and is the author of the fantasy novel series The Glass Singers\, now available on Amazon and elsewhere. Formerly trained at Loughborough University School of Art and Design\, Louise graduated in 2006 with a BA Hons in Fine Art. In the years after\, she continued to paint alongside working in galleries. Until she had her family\, Louise taught art in a secondary school until 2013. Louise has painted and sold in galleries throughout the country and works on private commissions in the UK and internationally. SUMMARY:Glass Fusion - Garden Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In this five-hour workshop you will make a unique glass piece to fit into a copper frame for your garden. The overall display including the frame measures approximately 10cm x 34cm. You will learn how to cut glass and will have access to a wide range of transparent glass on a clear or opaque white background to make your very own bespoke piece. There will be a thirty-minute break for lunch\, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit our café. \nAfter the workshop your pieces will be taken to Sally’s studio where they will be fired  in her kiln then fixed to the copper frame.  They will be ready within 14 days of the workshop and can be collected from Lamport Hall or posted out to you for the cost of the postage. \nPlease ensure you are wearing old clothes and enclosed shoes\, i.e. no sandals.

Please bring a fully charged-up smartphone and wear clothing / footwear suited to the weather on the day.This workshop is part of the Not Just Us exhibition series exploring themes of light and colour in the nature-space as seen through numerous eyes… \nThis is a FREE event – but places are limited\, pleas REGISTER BELOW. \nChildren are welcome to take part but must be accompanied by an adult and be able to bring\, or share the use of\, a smartphone for the duration of the workshop. \nThe session will begin with a 30–40 minute introduction in the Visitor Centre\, followed by approximately an hour spent outside.
