Precious Strand’s History and Inspiration for Recycling Textiles – May 7th

7th May 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

£8.00 – £18.50
Precious Strand’s History and Inspiration for Recycling Textiles – A talk by Sharn Matthews

Talk Overview

In past centuries textiles were comparatively expensive and were valued and re-used accordingly in most cultures. Today it is not the cost of purchase that concerns us but the environmental costs which are becoming more important. This talk explores aspects of the history of recycled textiles and some creative approaches to inspire recycling today.

The Speaker

Sharn worked in and with museums for over 40 years, starting with the Wisbech and Fenland Museum and culminating in running the Grosvenor Museum, Chester. Currently she volunteers with Northampton and Oundle Museums. Most of her work has been with costume collections but she has also explored various aspects of social and decorative art history on the way. Sharn is also a keen embroiderer and lover of historic recipes.
