The talk:
The Absolutely True Story of That Event We Call the First Thanksgiving
An overview:
Once upon a time in the 17th century, so we are told, an indigenous North American named Squanto stepped out of the wilderness to greet starving colonists in perfect English. A year after this timely meeting, the English Pilgrims sat down in friendship with their neighbours, the Wampanoag Nation, to share a bountiful harvest feast. Really? Could any of this story possibly be true? Yes, but a few things have been left out of the version you may have heard. To find out more, come listen as Lynette Hill, an American storyteller based in Milton Keynes, brings the ‘as true as I can make it’ story of that event we call ‘The First Thanksgiving.’
The speaker:
Lynette Hill is an American writer and storyteller fascinated by the blended history of the Americas and the United Kingdom. Currently based in Milton Keynes, she founded and hosts Bletchley’s monthly storytelling show for grownups, Tales Tattled & Told. She has been telling tales at festivals, schools, care homes and multi-faith events around Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire since 2015. She had the honour of serving as 2023 Bard of Stony Stratford and is the author of the fantasy novel series The Glass Singers, now available on Amazon and elsewhere.
