Woody will talk about his work as a carver, the trees from which the wood comes and his inspiration behind his pieces. He will cover how he “reads” what a piece of wood wants to be as a carving and the tools used to produce his work. The session will include a display of some of Woody’s finished carvings, and a range of tools he uses for carving.
The speaker Colin ‘Woody’ has been a volunteer with the Stanwick Lakes family for around 10 years helping with conservation and heritage projects on site. He is also our resident wood-carver and has made several items which you can see around the site. Woody has been a hobby wood-worker and wood-carver for around 60 years. In 2021 he was featured on the BBC ‘Countryfile’ programme from the Nene Valley, and even taught presenter Tom Heap some carving skills. He is a member of the Pagan community in Northamptonshire, and further afield, and has led celebration rituals at Stanwick Lakes.
