October Half Term
There’s a week full of family fun ahead at Stanwick Lakes, with lots to see and do this half term!
If you’re looking for a bit of fresh air and free play, the playground, tower and our assault course awaits! Or, if you’re looking to learn some outdoor skills, take a look at the ranger-led activities we have lined up for you…
In these sessions, you’ll experience activities like fire lighting and nature crafting. Our rangers will guide you through each activity, explaining their significance and offering tips. Be sure to wear waterproofs and wellies, as all activities are weather-dependent and take place outdoors. Remember, all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the session.
A ranger will lead your group to our den building area and introduce you to the tools and materials available for you to use, and discuss the main properties a shelter should have if it were to be needed in a survival situation. You’ll then be set a challenge to build your den! One of our ranger team will be on hand to visit your shelter and hear about your chosen den-building techniques and vision.
In the Visitor Centre this half term…
Inside, we have a host of family craft activities.
Booking is required for the Willow Lantern Workshops and the Harvest Mice Survey. All rother activities are drop-in, simply stop by…
Willow Lantern Workshops – from £9 per lantern
Monday 28th – Friday 1st November 2024
This family activity takes place in our ‘Discovery Zone’ which features a hand-painted mural of the Stanwick Lakes’ habitat. This is apt, because the lanterns you’ll be making are crafted from cut willow that our Rangers have collected during their conservation work, right here on the reserve.
No experience is necessary, however lanterns can be a bit tricky for little hands to make, so young children need to be supervised by an adult to attend. No more than 2 children per adult for children under 10 years of age.
No need to book!
Drop-in activities throughout half term:
We have three spooky, self-led activities for to to choose from. Available everyday during Visitor Centre opening hours, just ask a member of the team to get your set up!

Nature Harvest Mouse Survey !
Wednesday 30th October 2024
Autumn… the time of the Harvest… MOUSE!
Help us survey the Stanwick Lakes nature reserve for signs of harvest mice. While it’s improbable you will spot one of these tiny and elusive creatures themselves, our focus will be to identify indicators of, and locating, their abandoned nests.
This session is suitable for families with children aged 7 and older.
During our expedition, we will delve into the grass and undergrowth, whatever the weather! So make sure to dress appropriately for an exciting outdoor adventure!
EACH ticket allows a family or group of up to 6 to participate. Please book 1 ticket for your party.
