Aidan Phillips
Health & Safety
Since 1987, Aidan has been a part-time on-call firefighter initially at Irthlingborough station, where he became the Watch Manager in charge. Subsequently, in 1995, Aidan became a full-time firefighter for the Ministry of Defence at RAF Alconbury & Molesworth and then from 2006 joining Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service where he served until June 2025.
Aidan was also the Health & Safety consultant for a Northampton based company concerned with supporting, training and supplying technical equipment to industries dealing with specialised confined space working.
Aidan has had various volunteering roles which mainly began in 1995 when he became the national secretary of a support organisation now known as Women in the Fire Service (WFS), a position he held for 15 years, to support women facing many challenges in a male dominated work place in the early years of women’s more recent entry into the industry.
Aidan is a Magistrate on the Supplemental List (retired), having served over nine years on the benches at Wellingborough and Northampton.
Aidan has also been instrumental in setting up the Irthlingborough Archaeological Society with his wife Amanda and two other friends which successfully ran two large excavations at land adjacent to Tannery Cottages.
In recent times Aidan has set up and is now running a support programme called Operation Phoenix which assists blue-light service personnel to maintain their physical and mental health through involvement in archaeologically based activities. This is supported by the University and Leicester, North Northants Archaeological Resource Centre at Chester House and not least the Stanwick Lakes Heritage Team where Aidan has become fully immersed in the Big Bronze Age Boat Build as a lead volunteer!
