The time has come to say a fond farewell to Cathy Matthews, who has been our resident artist here at Stanwick Lakes for many years. Her warmth, creativity, and artistic talent have built a lasting legacy here. Keen for that to continue, Cathy has chosen our new resident artist, Louise Berrill (pictured left).
“While I’m looking forward to new challenges, I will be sad to leave Stanwick Lakes. It has been such a lovely place to teach, not just because of the spacious classrooms with great natural light and the endless inspiration from the beautiful nature reserve, but also because of my wonderful students. I have seen how the facilities and the stunning surroundings have contributed to their development, whether they are trying a course for the first time or returning week after week. I am confident they will continue to benefit from these elements and thrive under Louise’s guidance.”

Louise is a local artist living and working in a quiet village in rural Northamptonshire. Formally trained at Loughborough University School of Art and Design, Louise graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art. Her work is now sold in galleries throughout the country, and she is currently working on private commissions in the UK and internationally. Her current work speaks to the beauty of the natural world. With her dynamic use of colour and texture, her approach perfectly reflects what we value and seek to share here at Stanwick Lakes.
“I can’t believe how lucky we are that Cathy has found us an artist like Louise, who is not only brilliant but truly understands the magic of our natural landscape.”
~ Charmaine (Learning and Communities Manager at Stanwick Lakes)
Fortunately for us, when Louise is not creating prize-winning art, she is pursuing her passion for teaching. With years of experience, Louise understands the benefits of creativity. With her friendly and enthusiastic approach, she aims to inspire others, whether you simply want to try something new or are a budding artist.
“I am so excited to start teaching at Stanwick Lakes. Sharing my knowledge and encouraging people to express themselves through art makes me so happy, and we’ll be embracing so many different subject matters and materials – the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to see what my classes create.”
~ Louise Berrill
