Overview

Flower arranging and flower workshops are at Stanwick Lakes offers a series of seasonal workshops celebrating the beauty of natural blooms – dried, fresh, and everything in between. Whether you’re a seasoned flower lover or picking up a stem for the first time, these sessions offer a joyful, creative experience in a welcoming and relaxed setting.

Each workshop is led by Cathering Elworthy, of Elworthy Flowers. With an eye for colour, texture and natural beauty, she creates a warm, encouraging atmosphere where creativity flows freely and every arrangement is uniquely your own.

Across our workshops, you’ll have the chance to explore different floral styles and materials. The Dried Flower Crown workshop invites you to design a long-lasting wearable piece using beautiful preserved blooms in a rainbow of colours, while the May Day Fresh Flower Crown session celebrates the arrival of spring with seasonal fresh flowers. Further workshops round out your options with new techniques and seasonal inspiration.

All workshops are designed to be accessible to all abilities, with all materials provided and no previous experience required.

Together, these workshops offer a wonderful way to connect with nature, express your creativity, and come away with something truly beautiful.

What You’ll Learn

Materials & Selection: How to choose and combine flowers, foliage and grasses for colour, texture and balance.

Preparation: How to get your stems ready so everything holds its shape beautifully.

Construction: How to build your piece from scratch, attaching blooms securely as you go.

Finishing: How to layer, fill and style your finished piece so it looks just right.

Who are flower workshops for?

These workshops are ideal for anyone who loves flowers, nature and creativity – no experience necessary. Each session is beginner-friendly and designed to be a genuinely enjoyable, feel-good experience from start to finish.

Whether you’re looking for a fun evening out, a lovely way to mark a seasonal occasion, or simply a creative break from everyday life, the Flower Arranging programme offers something special. The small group sizes and relaxed pace mean there’s room for you to experiment, ask questions and make something you’re truly proud of.

Fresh Flower Crown

Mark the turning of the season and welcome the arrival of summer with a traditional May Day flower crown workshop. Rooted in centuries-old celebration, flower crowns have long symbolised renewal, abundance and the beauty of nature in full bloom. In this relaxed, hands-on session you’ll be guided through creating your own crown using fresh, seasonal flowers and foliage, inspired by classic May Day garlands and springtime hedgerows.

Stanwick 'Lates': Dried Flower Crowns

Come and join us for the perfect summer craft evening. You’ll learn how to design and create your very own flower crown using beautiful, long-lasting dried blooms in a rainbow of colours. Whether you’re heading to a festival, picnic, or you just want to feel like a floral goddess, this workshop is all about creativity, wellbeing, and a whole lot of flower power!

About the Tutor

Catherine Elworthy 

Catherine Elworthy is the flower grower and floral designer behind Elworthy Flowers, based in Harrold, Bedfordshire. Passionate about seasonal British blooms, Catherine grows the majority of her flowers at her countryside home and sources the rest from local growers — bringing a genuine love of the land and its rhythms to everything she creates.

Committed to sustainable practice, she works without floral foam and brings that same thoughtful, eco-conscious approach to her workshops. Warm, encouraging and genuinely excited by flowers, Catherine creates a relaxed atmosphere where creativity comes naturally.
