Heritage Build Weekend – FREE Event!
Join us at Stanwick Lakes for a special Heritage Build Weekend as part of our From Iron to Empire heritage project.
Taking place on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, 10am–4pm, the weekend will celebrate two major project milestones: the opening of our new Bronze Age-style jetty and the first firing of our replica Roman pottery kiln.
Explore the new Bronze Age-style jetty
For the first time, visitors will be able to explore the new jetty with self-guided access throughout the weekend. Built using Bronze Age-inspired construction techniques, the jetty is the result of months of traditional woodworking and experimental archaeology.
There will also be bronze casting demonstrations with Dr James Dilley of Ancient Craft at 2pm each day.
See our Roman kiln fired for the first time
Our replica Roman pottery kiln is ready for its first firing, following months of work by our volunteers to create replica Roman pottery using traditional techniques.
The kiln has been built using archaeological evidence from Roman pottery kilns found at Stibbington in the Upper Nene Valley. It will be opened by early afternoon on Sunday, when we’ll discover the results of the first firing.

With living history, traditional crafts, demonstrations and hands-on activities, this is a chance to see experimental archaeology in action and discover what our volunteers and project partners have been working on over the past year.
This is a FREE to attend event, made possible by Lottery Heritage Fund.
Usual parking applies, which raises vital funding for the charity that manages Stanwick Lakes.
