Join us at Stanwick Lakes during the school holidays for a week of family-friendly activities and adventures! From an Ancient Adventures sticker trail, to crafts, pottery painting and ranger-led sessions, there’s something for children of all ages to enjoy amidst the picturesque scenery of the lakes.
Ancient Adventures: Boudicca’s Iron Age Quest & historical crafts
No need to book!

Experience “Ancient Adventures” at Stanwick Lakes this May half term!

The Ancient Adventures element of half term includes a trail and historical crafts. Travel back in time take on Boudicca’s Iron Age Quest – a trail to search for supplies and match stickers (£3.50 per trail pack) – or why not choose a historical craft session (just £1) and you’ll make and decorate your very own Iron Age shield?

Our “Ancient Adventures” trails and crafts run throughout the school holidays, but culminate with the Iron Age Settlement Open Day on June 1st. This “living history” experience will celebrate the hard work of our volunteers and will take shape as a celebration of all things Iron Age – with blacksmithing and woodworking demos, weaving and crafting activities, magical storytelling and a chance to try ancient foods… Can you spot the difference between breads from different historical time periods?

This event is FREE to attend as part of our National Lottery Funded heritage projects, thanks to National Lottery players.

Ranger-led Activities

Our ranger-led nature engagement activities will run throughout the holidays, and you can see the dates below. For a summary of each event, and to book each activity, choose from below.

Experience a unique twist on your next visit with axe-throwing sessions. Under the guidance of a certified instructor, enjoy outdoor coaching sessions that promise both fun and skill-building. It’s the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the summer! Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned axe-throwing pro, these sessions cater to all skill levels (aged 11+) and offer a memorable experience for everyone.

Guided by one of our ranger team, you’ll learn about the pond-dwelling creatures you are likely to find, why they are key to the environment, and the importance of handling them carefully. Then you’ll be given pond dipping kits and take it in turns to dip. Identification keys are available and a ranger will be on hand to share knowledge and hear about your discoveries!

A ranger will lead your group to our den building area and introduce you to the tools and materials available for you to use, and discuss the main properties a shelter should have if it were to be needed in a survival situation. You’ll then be set a challenge to build your den! One of our ranger team will be on hand to visit your shelter and hear about your chosen den-building techniques and vision.

Pottery Painting – from £7

Our pop-up pottery painting studio in the Visitor Centre cafe is the perfect place to design your own creative keepsake to take home (10-day turnaround)
