About Philippa Forrester

Philippa Forrester’s career in television and radio began with her role as a children’s presenter for BFBS television in 1986. She went on to become a well-known broadcaster, presenting programmes including Tomorrow’s World, Barking Mad, The Heaven and Earth Show and Robot Wars, as well as co-presenting the BBC’s coverage of the solar eclipse in August 1999 and the turn of the new millennium.

Alongside her presenting work, Philippa has built a strong body of work focused on wildlife and conservation. In spring 2010 she appeared on BBC1 with her family in Halcyon River Diaries, a four-part series following the wildlife on and around the river close to their home, tracking the same group of animals through the changing seasons.

Philippa has presented many documentaries for the BBC’s Natural History Unit and appeared in programmes including The Great British Wildlife Revival (BBC2, 2013) and Bang Goes The Theory (BBC1, 2012). She also presented a weekly live BBC Radio 4 programme on behalf of the Natural History Unit called World on the Move, which followed animals during migration and was, at the time, the largest Natural History event commissioned on BBC Radio 4.

Philippa has written several books on nature and wildlife, including Wild Woman, On the Trail of Wolves, Halcyon River Diaries and The River, which explore stories of women in conservation, her experiences with wolves and wild landscapes, and rich observations of rivers and wildlife in the British countryside.

She runs her own production company, Halcyon Media, which specialises in natural history programming. Philippa holds a First Class Honours degree in Ecology and Conservation from Birkbeck College, London, and is passionate about conservation and the ecology of the natural world.
