Free Film & Talk Hosted by Nick Wilson
Also known as ‘The Disabled Adventurer’, Nick will arrive at Stanwick Lakes on the 14th of August at 3pm having completed 40km of North Northamptonshire’s Greenways trail, as part of his 50 for 50 accessibility campaign. To celebrate, Nick will be hosting a ‘small and personal get together’ in our Visitors Centre with a film screening and talk, where he will be sharing the motivation behind his ’50 for 50′ campaign, and his ambition to remove some of the limitations disabled people often experience accessing the natural world.
Nick Wilson’s 50 for 50 Campaign
Starting in April 2026, Nick’s 50 for 50 year-long challenge is a mission to trail pathways and countryside walks across the UK and Internationally to prove that disabled people belong in the natural world and that access should not end where the path does.
We are thrilled to have been chosen by Nick as one of his accessibility partners, and following campaign success, we could be donated an all-terrain powerchair. A cost that would otherwise be out of our reach! The wheelchair would be available for visitors to use at Stanwick Lakes to further improve access to the nature reserve.
Access Without Barriers
This project continues our work to make sure the opportunities we offer for play, exploration and adventure are accessible to everyone. We have already made great strides in improving our play area and have already installed a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and inclusive swings. We are now fundraising for a larger play tower and we would also like to make improvements to the pathways that connect the play equipment!
Community Talk and Film Screening
On the afternoon of the 14th, Nick will give a community talk and screen his award-winning film; ‘Project RockClimber’, an award-winning documentary which won Best Northants Documentary Feature Film at the Northampton Film Festival. The documentary follows his ascent of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in an all-terrain wheelchair. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to chat candidly with Nick, where he will be sharing the story behind the campaign and see what all-terrain powerchairs can do.
“Northamptonshire has backed me from day one – the communities here, the organisations, the people I bump into on trails who recognise the chair before they recognise me. this event is my way of saying thank you, properly. We’re rolling 40 kilometres across my home county, screening the film, having a natter, and hopefully getting people fired up about what we’re trying to do at Stanwick Lakes and Deleapre. It’s going to bring real and lasting change.”
Nick turned 50 on the 14th July 2026 and he wants the event to be a celebration of that milestone with the people who have made it meaningful. Nick is a disabled war veteran who living with chronic nerve pain, complex PTSD, and a spinal condition, has still managed to become the first powerchair user to complete 96 kilometres of the Ridgeway National Trail and the first to solo-ascend Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in a prototype all-terrain powerchair. Nick has never been short of reasons to keep going!
