Willow Weaving Course: Berry Basket

An ideal beginner’s basketry workshop. You’ll make a small, beautifully functional willow basket – perfect for garden produce, foraging, or displaying natural treasures. The finished basket measures approximately 6 inches wide and 4-5 inches high.
This course is especially valuable for beginners who want to build confidence before moving into basketry.
Starting with a slath, you’ll weave the base, insert the stakes to form the “cage,” and shape the sides. A simple border completes the top before you fit a handle bow and wrap it securely. You’ll have access to a selection of willow varieties so your finished basket reflects your own style and taste. A great introduction to the essential skills of traditional basket making. Willow is a marvellous and timeless, traditional material used in making a variety of baskets and many other items both practical and sculptural. The workshop is designed for adults of any creative level and is the perfect way to spend the day meeting and working alongside like minded people.
The course takes place in the Heritage Craft Barn at Stanwick Lakes, a 750-acre protected Nature Reserve and Wetland of International Importance managed by Rockingham Forest Trust as an environmental charity.
