Helen Sillitto Appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees
We are pleased to share the appointment of Helen Sillitto as new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Helen brings a wealth of legal and governance expertise with 9 years’ experience as an environmental lawyer working for the Canal & River Trust, and a previous background at the Environment Agency.
Moving close to Stanwick Lakes in 2013, Helen found herself with a 2-week-old daughter, and not knowing anyone in the local area she purchased a yearly parking pass. Over the following years she spent many leisure hours at the site with her young children. Helen has particularly fond memories of the Solstice Walk and the Viking Festival and said that she has since felt a part of Stanwick Lakes. When she was offered the opportunity, Helen explains that she felt she ‘owed’ the site, feeling a huge sense of responsibility and opportunity to give her experience in exchange for the countless hours of pleasure it had given her over the years.
Helen brings renewed strength, stability and strong governance to the Trust, she not only understands the challenges of managing such a delicate environment, she is also personally invested. She recognises the need to protect our conservation and heritage, while enabling people to connect with nature. It is clear the site means a great deal to her.
Helen – and the rest of the Board – will ensure that the Trust remains committed to safeguarding this protected landscape for future generations, ensuring it continues to educate and connect people with nature.
