Looking for a fun and educational way to spend February half-term? Feathered Friends is back – a whole week’s line up of activities to keep the family entertained.

Brilliant Beaks Children’s Trail

One of the highlights of the week is our Brilliant Beaks trail, a clue-solving adventure that takes you around Solstice Lake. The trail encourages you explore the birdlife of Stanwick Lakes while matching beak to birds at each stop. Trail packs are just £3.50 and this year, by completing the trail, you’ll be completing your very own bird-spotting book to take home.

You can grab your trail pack from the Visitor Centre during opening hours – there’s no need to book, just turn up ready for some avian-inspired fun! We recommend doing the trail between 9.30am and 3pm to make the most of daylight hours.

Join the Flock!

Drop by the Visitor Centre and get crafty with our free origami bird activity. Choose from a range of colours and designs to create your very own bird to display in the Visitor Centre. Last year, we had a beautiful display adding colour and movement adorning the ceiling – can we grow the flock?

If you’re feeling creative, why not try painting one of our bird-themed pottery pieces? We’ll be adding a bird-themed pieces especially for half term, which will make great keepsakes, and with no booking required, it’s easy to pop in and get started. (Collection is at a later date, once glazed and fired for you).

Get tickets for limited events

In addition to the trail and drop-in activities, we’re also hosting a selection of bookable events throughout the week. From decorating bottle bird feeders to building bird boxes with our rangers, there’s something for every budding ornithologist.

For the little ones, there’s Bub Club – a bird-themed session featuring music, crafts, and a short sparrow-spotting walk. Or, join us for some Feathery Forest Fun, where children can weave nests, make a bird to take home, and enjoy campfire treats.

Something for Everyone

Round off your visit with a treat from our café, where you’ll find bird-themed treats, or browse the gift shop for charming bird-inspired products to take home.
