Discover Nature Through Art at Stanwick Lakes This September
This September, Stanwick Lakes will be hosting a special exhibition as part of the Northants and Rutland Open Studios Festival, showcasing the work of four talented local artists inspired by the natural world.
Visitors can explore a varied collection of artwork, including wood carvings, paintings and collages, all celebrating nature in different ways. Whether you’re an enthusiast or simply looking for something different to enjoy during your visit, the exhibition offers a wonderful opportunity to discover local creativity and meet artists from the area.
Meet the Artists
Local artist Anna Yardley uses collage to capture the energy of the sea and the beauty of costal landscapes. Through layers of texture, pattern and shape, her work brings seascapes to life in a vibrant way.
Many visitors will already know Colin Odum-WoodWight, better known as “Woody”. A Stanwick Lakes volunteer for more than 13 years, Colin is a familiar face at the visitor centre where he teaches wood carving techniques. His exhibition will feature a collection of intricate wood carvings inspired by Pagan mythology and traditional art.
David Buchanan takes a completely different approach, creating quirky and imaginative artwork using alcohol inks and fine liners. Inspired by therapy and cats, his cartoon-style drawings combine humour, creativity and a touch of the unexpected, guaranteed to raise a smile.
Completing the exhibition is Trevor Petrie, whose acrylic paintings capture landscapes, coastal scenes and wildlife. Drawing inspiration from his travels across Southern Africa and Europe, Trevor uses light and shadow to create striking and atmospheric works.
Celebrating the Natural World
Together, these four artists bring a fascinating mix of styles, materials and perspectives, all connected by a shared inspiration from nature. Their work reflects the beauty, character and diversity of the natural world that surrounds us.
Meet the Artists in Person
As well as viewing the exhibition throughout September, visitors will have the chance to meet the artists and learn more about their work at a special meet-the-artists event on Sunday 6th September from 10am to 2pm.
Part of the Open Studios Festival
The exhibition forms part of the wider Northants and Rutland Open Studios Festival, which showcases artists across Northamptonshire and Rutland. With open studios, exhibitions and workshops taking place throughout the festival, it’s a fantastic opportunity to explore the creativity and artistic talent found across the region.
Plan Your Visit
The exhibition will run from Tuesday 1st September until Sunday 27th September and can be viewed in the Visitor Centre, which is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm.
Please note that on some occasions parts of the exhibition may not be available to view due to room bookings. Visitors are advised to contact us before travelling if you wish to check availability. A catalogue will be available to view art exhibits during these times.
